The De Bortoli Noble One 2020 vintage continues the legacy of one of the world’s most celebrated dessert wines. This exquisite wine presents a radiant golden hue and an enticing bouquet of ripe peaches, apricots, and candied citrus, layered with hints of honey, butterscotch, and subtle spice.

On the palate, it is luxuriously rich and velvety, with flavors of tropical fruits, orange marmalade, and crème caramel beautifully balanced by a vibrant, zesty acidity. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving a lingering impression of pure indulgence.

This versatile dessert wine is a perfect companion to blue cheeses, fruit tarts, and panna cotta, or enjoy it on its own for a moment of sheer decadence.

FOOD PAIRING

The perfect accomplishment for that decadent plate of cheese and dried fruits or an Almond Sablé. Be bold and try Noble One with a savoury dish such as Smoked Duck or Tempura cod with fermented mushrooms.

WINEMAKING

The fruit is harvested, crushed and left overnight to release further flavour and sweetness. Following this, pressing the juice is clarified and then fermented in tank. The ferments are carefully monitored until the balance of alcohol, sweetness and acidity is achieved. The ferment is halted, while the wine is clarified, stabilized and then matured in French oak barriques. After 12 months in oak, each parcel is assessed and then blended. The 2020 Noble One was matured in 37% new oak, 33% one and two year old oak and 30% unoaked to provide the fresh fruitfulness to the wine.

CELLARING

This wine can be enjoyed on release but will continue to evolve and develop complexity over the next several decades.

 Reviews

Wow, this Riverina dessert wine is decadent. Intensely flavoured, it has collected a swag of awards since its introduction in 1982. Mandarins, nectarines and yellow peaches, a dollop of honey, with a creamy unctuous texture. There's just enough acidity on the finish to bring a sense of freshness. It's impressive.

Newcastle Herald November 2024

In Noble One you get a golden-toned liquid that couldn’t be more distant in colour from the desiccated grapes affected by noble rot. On taste, the 2020 has layers of honey and fruit with a lemon peel tang overlaid with light vanilla. It’s not claggy and has a vibrant, balanced acid finish.

Canberra City News October 2024

For over four decades, De Bortoli's Noble One botrytis semillon has been Australia's benchmark dessert wine. Darren De Bortoli's inspired creation remains at the very top of its game, offering luscious sweetness with brisk acid on the finish. A thing of beauty. Sure, you can match this with pastries, tarts and other desserts, but it also pairs brilliantly with pates, terrines and blue cheeses. Trust me. A team led by senior winemaker Julie Mortlock is carrying on Darren's good work with the 2020 vintage right in the zone. Think rich stone fruit/marmalade ripeness with a citrusy zestyness on the finish. 97 points from me.

Winsor's Choice blog June 2024

Peach flesh, perfectly ripe mangoes, tangerine and persimmon. Orange blossom, lemon oil and brandy snaps. Exuberant in fresh fruit and, despite its utter luscious sweetness, still maintains very persistent acidity to carry the flavours long. A grip of ruby grapefruit pith, vanilla bean oak and sugared almonds on the finish. Beautiful now, sensational with decades in the cellar. 96 Points.
